The R. McNiven & Sons Insurance Brokerage was initially established in 1925 by Robert McNiven Sr. He was later joined by his son, Robert G. McNiven, in 1947. Robert G. McNiven remained the principal owner/operator of the business until March 1, 1989 when the business was purchased by Wm. K. White and Robert's son-in-law, Paul Henderson. The Corporation R. McNiven & Sons Insurance Brokers Inc., was established in 1989.

Through "hard work" and a commitment to prompt, personalized service, the company has continued to grow steadily to its present stature – representing 13 insurance companies.

Proudly, the brokerage was named as one of the more desirable insurance offices with which to do business, in the area consumer poll – "In Search of Excellence" conducted by the London Business magazine. R. McNiven & Sons was the only recommended insurance brokerage to be so honoured outside the City of London proper.
